Ao. Calvin, AGREEMENT OF PATIENTS AND NURSES PERCEPTIONS OF BURN PAIN - A RESEARCH REVIEW, The Online journal of knowledge synthesis for nursing, 4(3-4), 1997, pp. 3-8
(1) The purpose of this study was to review all available research stu
dies that reported the level of agreement between patients' and nurses
' perceptions of burn pain. Findings from the eight studies included i
n this review varied, however, overall nurses appeared to be inclined
to overestimate or underestimate patients' burn pain rather than rate
patients' pain in accordance with patients' ratings. Possible factors
that may have influenced the discrepancies in patients' and nurses' bu
rn pain ratings and critiques of the eight research reports are discus
sed. Practice implications and recommendations for future research are
provided.
