Abstract
Using an oscillating crucible viscosimeter the viscosities of liquid A lxIn100-x alloys have been measured (x = 100, 80, 60, 50 at.%) in the temperature range from 1460 K to the decomposition temperature of the alloys or the solidification temperature of pure aluminium, respective ly. The observed viscosity-temperature plots enable directly the deter mination of the macroscopic decomposition temperature and they reveal the appearance of pre-decomposition on a microscopic scale. By observi ng the dependence of the measured viscosities on time, the homogenizat ion time of the critical alloy above the critical temperature has been studied.
