LB FILMS OF NOVEL POLYETHERS AND THEIR SALT COMPLEXES

We have developed new complex-forming polyethers bearing alkyl side ch ains and have shown that high-quality, uniform Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films can be prepared. Measurement of electrical conductivity of multi layers has demonstrated that metal ions added to the subphase can be i ncorporated into the LB films and yield an enhancement in the conducti vity of five orders of magnitude over Alms void of salt. In addition w e have demonstrated a pyre-electric effect when alternate layers of ce rtain polyether derivatives and amines are assembled.
