Sulfonate-containing aromatic polyamides of various structure were stu
died, It was shown by viscometry, spectrophotometry, and TGA that the
acid groups in macromolecules affect the polymer solubility, the hydro
dynamic behavior of polymer solutions, and the mechanical properties o
f the polymers prepared. The films prepared from the polymers on the b
asis of isophthaloyl dichloride or its blend with terephthaloyl dichlo
ride have a strength higher than 150 MPa and an elongation at break of
10-14%. The values of these parameters are much greater than those fo
r the samples prepared from terephthaloyl dichloride alone.
