Abstract
Carboxylic acids are converted by hexachloroacetone and triphenylphorp hine at -78 degrees C in methylene chloride to the corresponding acyl chlorides. Formic acid can be used to generate formyl chloride at -78 degrees C in order to perform formylation under very mild conditions. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
