Abstract
The mathematical experimental design and the design of experiments by variance analysis were used for revealing the causes of large variatio ns in the blank signal in the atomic absorption determination of zinc in waters with low mineral content. It is shown that distilled water i s contaminated with zinc at all of the analysis stages, starting from water production. Conditions for conducting a blank experiment in the case of determining zinc traces are recommended.
