Ls. Litvinova et Kb. Kalinina, SEPARATION AND DETERMINATION OF THE PRODUCTS OF GUM HYDROLYSIS BY THIN-LAYER CHROMATOGRAPHY, Journal of analytical chemistry, 52(9), 1997, pp. 897-901
A method for identifying gums by thin-layer chromatography on KSKG sil
ica-gel plates impregnated with phosphate buffer solutions was develop
ed. Effects of the pH of buffer solutions and the nature of the cation
(K+ or Na+) on the separation of gum monosaccharides were examined. M
obile phases containing polar aprotic solvents were suggested. Neutral
sugars and uronic acids can be simultaneously separated with the use
of these mobile phases. A modified reagent was used for the visualizat
ion of sugars. It produces different colors of chromatographic zones a
nd retains its properties on long storage.
