Abstract
After a preliminary description of the topographical situation, the cu rvatures, and the narrow sections of the feline esophagus, the measuri ng of its length will be focussed on, The total length of the esophagu s on average is 22.4 cm (s = 1.3 cm). There is a linear correlation be tween the length of the esophagus and the body, Partial measurings sho w however, that the cat has a relatively long Pars thoracica esophagi. The final presentation of the specifics of the esophageal tissue, esp ecially its Tunica mucosa, leads to the conclusion that the distinct f unctionality of the feline esophagus must be discussed.
