Mn. Bozdogan et al., CHONGCHETS OTOPLASTY - NOT ONLY A METHOD OF ANTHELIX RECONSTRUCTION, European journal of plastic surgery, 20(5), 1997, pp. 231-234
The cause of prominent ear deformity may be anthelix deficiency or a h
igh conchal wall [2]. Chongchet's otoplasty [3] is an old method descr
ibed for correction of anthelix deficiency via anterior scoring. The a
im of this study is to show the use of Chongchet's otoplasty in concha
l wall reduction and the use of auricular cartilage tension lines in s
urgical correction of prominent ear deformity, In 24 prominent ear cas
es with different causes anterior scoring was performed along the auri
cular cartilage tension lines. Conchal reduction as well as antihelica
l reconstruction was easily achieved by folding the cartilage; excess
conchal wall cartilage was excised laterally, Long-term results show p
leasing contours without any recurrence. In conclusion, Chongchet's ot
oplasty which permits conchal wall reduction and anterior scoring acco
rding to auricular cartilage tension lines facilitates conchal and ant
ihelical folding.
