Abstract
The stability of liposomes was found to be considerably improved by th e incorporation of perfluoroalkylated lipids. Therefore we have develo ped an easy synthesis procedure to obtain vesicle-forming perfluoroalk ylated double-chain surfactants for liposome technology applications. This paper describes new fluorine-containing liposomes obtained by son ication of highly fluorinated mixed-chain surfactants and by gentle mi xing of perfluoroalkylated cationic and anionic single-chain surfactan ts. The observation of liposomes by electron microscopy reveals the ex istence of unilamellar polydispersed aggregates whose mean sizes were measured by quasi-elastic light scattering.
