I. Bagyi et al., TEMPERATURE PROFILE OF COUNTERCURRENT GAS-LIQUID FLOW IN A PACKED-COLUMN, Hungarian journal of industrial chemistry, 25(3), 1997, pp. 233-239
The purpose of this study was to measure the temperature profile, to d
etermine the mean temperature and to investigate the interaction betwe
en fluid temperatures and hydrodynamic behaviour of a 0.1 m diameter 1
m height absorption column packed with 0.012 m Raschig-rings. The val
ues of measured parameters were chosen in the good operating domain of
the packed tower and below that using the practical loads and tempera
tures of SO2 absorption from low concentration gases by sodium-citrate
buffer solution. To determine the temperature, profile electric semic
onductor sensors were placed into the packing along the vertical axis
of the column. The data recording and processing were aided by a perso
nal computer. The measured data supported our consideration, that in t
he lower 10 cm of the column height the gas phase becomes saturated wi
th the vapour of the liquid phase which causes a fast cooling of both
fluids, while above that the column works as a counter-current heat ex
changer.
