Abstract
An efficient and versatile method was developed to synthesize etradeca ne-1,14-diyl)bis(2-methylbenzene-1,3-diol) (striatol), a minor compone nt of the plant Grevillea striata (Proteaceae family). Other substance s prepared in high yield by the method include 5,5'-(dodecane-1,12-diy l)bis(2-methylbenzene-1 ,3-diol), '-(decane-1,10-diyl)bis(2-methylbenz ene-1,3-diol), ,5'-(octane-1,8-diyl)bis(2-methylbenzene-1,3-diol) and 2-methyl-5-nonylresorcinol.
