Abstract
600 patients with total hip replacement were examined for concomitant internistic diseases. Their average age was 70.7 years; 72.8% of the e xamined patients were women and 27.2% men. The most frequent cause of implantation was osteoarthritis of the hip, followed by fracture of th e neck of the femur and rheumatoid arthritis. On considering the conco mitant diseases there was marked multimorbidity among the predominantl y elderly patients. 51.5% of the examined patients had 5 and more conc omitant diseases. Cardiovascular diseases ranked first (e.g. coronary heart disease 24.7%), followed by thyroid diseases and diseases of the gallbladder. 5.7% suffered from a malignoma or had already been treat ed for the same.
