A time-dependent radiative convective climate model is used to estimat
e the effect of ozone loss on the radiative balance of the earth-tropo
sphere system. Estimates of the thermal relaxation time of the lower s
tratosphere are presented. The influence of ozone drop pulses of an id
ealized and an actual shape on radiative forcing is estimated. A compa
rison of results obtained by means of steady-state and time-dependent
models revealed that the steady-state estimates can overestimate the v
alues of radiative forcing up to 40% depending on the shape of ozone d
rop pulses.
