In this communication are reported the structural characterization of
Me3AlNH2But(1), [Me2AlNHBut](2) (2) and [Me2AlNLi(THF)Bd(t)](2)(3). Th
ese compounds mark the first instance that a direct structural compari
son can be made within a homologous series consisting of an alkylalumi
num primary amine adduct, -amide, and lithium amide. One change of int
erest within 1-3 relates to the degree of bond shortening that occurs
with the growing negative charge on nitrogen.
