R. Baccino et al., MECHANICAL-PROPERTIES OF ODS FE-BASED ALL OYS PRODUCED BY MECHANICAL ALLOYING AND HOT CONSOLIDATION, Annales de chimie, 22(6), 1997, pp. 423-433
This paper based on practical applications illustrates some possibilit
ies of the mechanical alloying process in improving mechanical propert
ies of Fe-based alloys, namely ferritic steels and FeAl intermetallics
. This improvement is mainly due to a nanometer size oxide dispersion
(ODS alloys - Oxide Dispersion Strengthening) which is impossible to o
btain by conventional metallurgy. In our study, the oxide dispersion w
as introduced either as ceramic powders or by in situ oxidation. The O
DS alloys prepared in this way exhibit good mechanical strength and du
ctility in a wide temperature range (up to 800 degrees C). Their prope
rties are compared to some currently used industrial materials.
