Abstract
EU Council Directive 93/119 has been reported on the care of solipedou s and cloven-hoofed animals, poultry, rabbits and fur animals during s laughtering and killing. Rules to be applied at the slaughterhouses ha ve been detailed together with those to be maintained during slaughter ing and killing animals outside a slaughterhouse. Methods accepted to use in the European Community for moving and housing the animals insid e the slaughterhouse, fixing the animals before and during stunning, s laughtering or killing and the conditions of their execution have been detailed. Reporting the animal welfare demands accepted and introduce d at the Hungarian export slaughterhouses are important because these rules form the basis of the planned national regulation to be issued a ccording to the harmonization of laws. The first Hungarian animal welf are law is actually in the Hungarian Parliament under discussion. Non- masked aim of the authors was to inform and influence, as well as prep are the veterinary society for the forthcoming animal welfare tasks wh ich have been carrying out by the stare veterinarians in the member co untries of the European Community.
