Xanthoria parietina mycobiont was isolated and cultured under axenic c
onditions. The development of the fungi in aposymbiotic culture depend
ed on the carbon source present in the nutritive medium. The highest d
evelopment was obtained with 4% glucose in LBM. Nevertheless, the majo
r yield of spore germination was in BBM medium. When the sporulation p
rocess was carried out in LBM (without contamination), the yield of ge
rmination was very low. The results suggest that high levels of glucos
e could inhibit or largely suppress germination.
