Abstract
Discrete variable structure control (DVSC), a computer based derivativ
e of variable structure control, has shown significant potential as a
strategy for the control of magnetostrictive actuators [1,2]. investig
ations into the performance of an actual DVSC system are described. Th
e influence of output drive saturation, processor speed, accuracy and
finite calculation time on the quality of control are presented. (C) 1
