Pollen analysis carried out on 2 cores LC91/1 from Salitre (19 degrees
S lat., 1050 m alt., Brazil) and Serra da Boa Vista (27 degrees 42' S
lat., 1160 m alt., Brazil) bring new data on the localisation of the
Araucaria forest durint the Holocene. The forest as been detected at 1
9 degrees S at 9500 yr BP and at 27 degrees 42' S at 4000 yr BP and co
nfirms that southern Brazilian climate and vegetation are influenced b
y polar advection and that today the existence of relict forest is due
to specific local climatic conditions.
