Laser flash photolysis of [Ru(PPh3)(3)(CO)(H)(2)] 1 in benzene solutio
n yielded transient [Ru(PPh3)(3)(CO)] which was observed by both micro
second UV/VIS and IR spectroscopy [lambda(max) = 380 nm, v(CO) = 1845
cm(-1)] and reacted with H-2 to reform 1 [k(2) = (8.4 +/- 0.4) x 10(7)
dm(3) mol(-1) s(-1)]; photolysis of 1 with an ultrafast laser equippe
d with IR detection demonstrates that reductive elimination of H-2 and
formation of [Ru(PPh3)(3)(CO)] is complete within 6 ps.
