K. Yoshida et al., INFLUENCES OF YAW-ANGLE ON READ WRITE CHARACTERISTICS INVESTIGATED BYCOMPUTER-SIMULATION/, IEEE transactions on magnetics, 33(5), 1997, pp. 2707-2709
A computer study of recording loss due to a yaw-angle (skew) is discus
sed, Use of yaw-angle when writing on a medium enhances non-linear dis
tortion in the recorded magnetization on the track center as well as o
n the track edges, resulting in the reduction in signal output. The de
gree of the reduction is strongly influenced by the magnetic propertie
s of the recording medium and writing conditions (write head gap-lengt
h, spacing between head and medium, etc.). An isotropic medium and nar
row spacing recording with a narrow gap head is preferable for reducin
g the yaw-angle loss.
