Results on a new effect observed in FeSiB amorphous wires - the large
gyromagnetic effect - are reported for the first time. This effect con
sists in the appearance of a rotation of the sample around its axis wi
th frequencies from 1 to 60 Hz when the sample is subjected to an axia
l alternating magnetic field of similar to 10(2) A/m having a frequenc
y of similar to 10(4) Hz. Both the sample rotation frequency and the f
requency of the field at which the effect appears depend on the sample
length, the characteristics of this dependence indicating that the ap
pearance of the effect is closely related to the formation of a standi
ng wave associated to the oscillation of the magnetic moments. The mag
nitude of the wire's magnetostriction constant is also essential as co
ncerns the appearance of the large gyromagnetic effect.
