The Be-substituted Nd-2(Fe-14-Be-x(x))B compounds have been successful
ly prepared, The observed linear reduction of the unit cell volume wit
h the Be substitution indicates that the Be atoms enter almost exclusi
vely the Fe sites, Both the Curie temperature and magnetization are we
akened upon the Be substitution; the reduction in T-C is about 26K/Be
atom and the reduction in the average Fe moment is about 0.26 mu(B)/Be
atom, respectively, The fits to room temperature Mossbauer spectrum o
f Nd-2(Fe13Be)B gives an average hyperfine field of 23.7 T, The room t
emperature anisotropy of Be substituted Nd-2(Fe14-xBex)B compounds is
around 8 T which is nearly unchanged, compared to the parent Nd2Fe14B
compound, Moreover, the Be substitution leads to an increase in the ca
nting angle at 10 K, from 28 degrees to similar to 36 degrees, and a d
ecrease in the spin-reorientation temperature from 131 K to 123 far Be
-0.5 and 112 K substitution, respectively. These effects a weakened A(
20) value and/or an enhanced A(40) value for Nd atoms.
