Abstract
The Gilbert equation of motion is solved for magnetic nano-elements of arbitrary shape using a hybrid finite element/boundary element method , NiFe elements show small scale domains in the remanent state, if a u niaxial anisotropy parallel to the short axis is assumed, In bars with one pointed end, the formation of the domains starts from the fiat en ds, Narrow elements with a width smaller than 0.2 mu m remain in a nea rly single domain state.
