This paper treats a two-dimensional motion by means of commercial elec
tric motors. The proposed motor consists of four stators of induction
motor (IM) and a common solid-conductor. By controlling the phase of s
upply voltage far each starer minding, the rotor is capable of produci
ng any one of rotary, linear, and helical motions. From 3-D finite ele
ment analysis and the experiment, an optimized structure of the motor
is derived.
