M. Han et al., PHOTOEMISSION-STUDY OF CARBON-MONOXIDE ON PT(001) USING POHANG SYNCHROTRON LIGHT-SOURCE, Journal of the Korean Physical Society, 31, 1997, pp. 257-262
We used the synchrotron radiation light source to investigate the CO a
dsorbate on Pt(001). We observed the valence band and the core-level s
pectra with increasing the amount of the CO molecule exposure. The val
ence band spectra showed the relation between the surface crystallogra
phic change and the electronic structures of the CO molecule orbitals
and the platinum d levels around the fermi energy. We also observed th
at the photon irradiation might dissociate the CO molecule and change
significantly the sticking coefficient of the CO adsorption on the sur
face. The electronic structure after reaching the saturation coverage
looks to be stable. Considering the stable surface structure after the
CO saturation, we suggest that the CO molecule might be a good candid
ate of a gas phase surfactant for the metal growth control.
