Abstract
Background: Modern video systems are essential to minimally invasive s urgery. Methods: We discuss general precepts that must be considered w hen planning to acquire such a system for one's operating rooms. One p ossible approach to objective camera evaluation is described. Multivar iate analysis was performed. Results: There was a statistical preferen ce for two independent variables: chip number and digitization. Of the se, digitized enhancement was more significant. Conclusions: As cost a nd versatility become increasingly important in the purchase of surgic al video systems, multidisciplinary evaluations to determine a preferr ed system can prove valuable to an institution.
