Abstract
As circular stapler designs evolve, they provide the means for an incr easing range of surgical techniques. It appears that the long-term dir ection of this evolution will coincide with that of minimally invasive therapy (MIT). The range of techniques available using the current in struments is scattered throughout the literature. This range is presen ted as a rationalized collation. Technologists working on the developm ent of MIT anastomotic equipment will find the core of a design specif ication for future development prescribed.
