Resonance ionization spectroscopy (RIS) was performed on desorbed Au,
and the complete hyperfine spectrum of both isomeric and ground states
of the short lived Au-184 nucleus has been recorded from the 5d(10)6s
(2)S(1/2) --> 5d(10)6p(2)P(3/2) optical transition. The nuclear moment
s of both states and the mean square charge radius changes were measur
ed. The magnetic moments were determined to be mu(I=S)(184g) = +2.07(2
)mu(N) and mu(I=2)(184m) = +1.44(2)mu(N) and the spectroscopic quadrup
ole moments to be Q(s)(184g) = +4.65(26)b and Q(s)(184m) = +1.90(16) b
. A difference in the mean square charge radius delta[r(c)(2)](184g,18
4m) = -0.036(3) fm(2) was found.
