Abstract
Using Takens's theorem we show that any pair of uni-directionally coup led dynamical systems can be synchronised via almost all scalar observ ations of the driving system's state. Moreover, the values of the scal ar observation at only a finite number of times are sufficient for syn chronisation purposes. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
