Abstract
The notion of a multidimensional quadrilateral lattice is introduced. It is shown that such a lattice is characterized by a system of integr able discrete nonlinear equations. Different useful formulations of th e system are given. The geometric construction of the lattice is also discussed and, in particular, the number of initial-boundary data is c larified, which define the lattice uniquely. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
