Pad/dry/cure and cold-hatch processes have been evaluated as pretreatm
ent steps for union dyeing wool/cotton textiles. Both processes select
ively modify cotton without affecting wool. These processes were compa
red to evaluate N-hydroxy and N-methyl urea compound resin systems in
the presence of amino or quaternary nitrogen compounds and the monomer
ic and polymeric dye-fixative systems containing quaternary ammonium,
epoxide, azetidinium, and guanidino constituents. The objective measur
ements used for the comparison include union shade index, colorimetric
analysis, mechanical properties, and colorfastness.
