Abstract
A 3-dimensional numerical model has been developed to carry out simula tions of the wind induced circulation in the Bay of Bengal, based upon the turbulence energy closure scheme(1). Model domain is forced by th e mean monthly wind stress forcing derived from the 30 years (1950-79) of Comprehensive Oceanographic Atmospheric Data Sets(COADS). Many of the observed features of wind-driven circulation in the Bay of Bengal are reproduced by this model. Locations of upwelling and downwelling i n the Bay of Bengal are also simulated.
