Mg. Sustersic et al., ELECTROCHEMICAL-BEHAVIOR OF NEUROTRANSMITTERS ADSORBED ON GOLD, Anales de la Asociacion Quimica Argentina, 84(6), 1996, pp. 563-572
The redox reactions of adsorbed layers on gold are studied for the fol
lowing neurotransmitters: epinephrine, dopamine, serotonin and acetylc
holine. The adsorption fakes place at open circuit condition. The resu
lts are compared with the others obtained with phenol, hydroquinone, a
scorbic acid, chloride, melatinin and chloranilic acid. The adsorbed c
atecholamines present a reversible oxidation of the OH groups of the r
ing, and an irreversible oxidation at higher potentials. Serotonin sho
ws two reversible couples. Melatonin, on the other hand, shows a uniqu
e couple. Acetylcholine shows an irreversible oxidation only.
