Y. Hisaeda et al., PREPARATION OF ARTIFICIAL GLYCOLIPIDS AND THEIR AGGREGATION BEHAVIOR IN AQUEOUS-MEDIA, Tetrahedron letters, 38(38), 1997, pp. 6713-6716
N,N-Dihexadecyl-N-alpha-[6-(beta D-galactopyranosyl)hexanoyl]-L-alanin
amide and N,N-dihexadecyl-N-alpha-[6-{(beta D-galactopyranosyl>(1 -->
4>O-(D-glucopyranosyl)}hexanoyl]-L-alaninamide, which have an amino ac
id residue interposed between a polar sugar moiety and a hydrophobic d
ouble-chain segment individually, were prepared and characterized as n
ovel artificial glycolipids. Morphological studies by means of differe
ntial scanning calorimetry and dynamic light scattering as well as ele
ctron microscopy clarified that these lipids tend to form stable bilay
er membranes by themselves in aqueous media. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science
