Abstract
Non-invasive alignment and rotation of liquid-crystalline suspensions of vanadium pentoxide ribbons by a magnetic field is reported. The rib bons align as shown in the Figure if the magnetic field, initially app lied along the capillary main axis, is perpendicular to the main axis but still in the plane of the figure. It is believed that this simple idea could be applied to any nematic suspension of mineral compounds.
