ISOLATION OF ACID HYPER-PRODUCING STRAINS FROM HYPERPOLYPLOIDS OF ASPERGILLUS-KAWACHII

The mycelia of Aspergillus kawachii were treated with colchicine solut ion for the purpose of autoployploidization. When the mycelia were tre ated with 0.1% (w/v) colchicine solution for 7 days, huge autopolyploi d nuclei called hyperpolyploid nuclei were produced in the mycelia. Wh en such mycelia were treated with Benlate, the acid hyper-producing st rains were isolated at a frequency of 3.0% among conidia on fan-shaped sectors. it was concluded that the method may contribute to isolating acid hyper-producing strains of this fungus.
