Abstract
The localised-moment system UPd3 exhibits quadrupolar and magnetic pha se transitions, at T1 almost-equal-to 7 K and T2 almost-equal-to 4.5 K , respectively. We have followed the magnetic field dependence of the transitions in thermal expansion and magnetostriction measurements. Th e thermal expansion is large and highly anisotropic, as is the magneto striction below T2. The transitions are extremely sensitive to Pt dopi ng.
