Thermal decomposition of manganese hexa(formato)ferrate(III)hexahydrat
e, i.e., Mn-3[Fe(HCOO)(6)](2).6H(2)O has been studied up to 700 degree
s C in static air atmosphere employing TG, DSC, XRD, IR and Mossbauer
spectroscopic techniques. The anhydrous complex decomposed directly in
to ferric oxide and manganese carbonate in successive stages without u
ndergoing reduction to iron(II) intermediate. Finally a solid state re
action between Fe2O3 and manganese carbonate leads to the formation of
manganese ferrite (MnFe2O4) at a temperature (655 degrees C) much low
er than for ceramic method. A saturation magnetization value (4 Ms) of
2550 Gauss makes MnFe2O4 suitable for functioning at high frequencies
