A definition for biomorph analysis is suggested. The structure and the
placement of biomorph analysis in the general system of the morpholog
ical study of soil are discussed. The main objects of analysis morphs
(phytoliths, spores and pollen, diatoms, sponge spicules, etc.)-are ch
aracterized with respect to their diagnostic features and methods of d
ata interpretation. The need to include biomorphic studies into the ge
neral system of pedogenetic investigations is substantiated.
