Methyl, benzyl, methoxymethyl, methylthiomethyl, methoxyethoxymethyl,
and beta-(trimethylsilyl)ethoxymethyl esters could be cleaved readily
under mild conditions on treatment with AlCl3-N,N-dimethylaniline in C
H2Cl2 to give parent carboxylic acids in high yields.
