Etodolac/beta-cyclodextrin (Eto/beta-CD) dispersions were prepared wit
h a view to study the influence of beta-CD on the solubility and disso
lution rate of this poorly soluble drug. Two systems were used: physic
al mixture of Eto/beta-CD and kneading solid dispersion of Eto/beta-CD
. Physical characterization of the prepared systems was carried out by
scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry
(DSC), x-ray, and IR studies. The solubility and dissolution rate of
Eto were increased with beta-CD physical mixture as well as with Eto/b
eta-CD kneading solid dispersion. However, enhancement was not statist
ically different among various cyclodextrin dispersions.
