We have prepared a series of toluidine derivatives and some of them sh
owed an interesting in vitro activity against Mycobacterium tuberculos
is. All compounds showed good activity against M.avium, some of them w
ere more potent than the streptomycin and isoniazid used as controls.
Moreover, newly synthesized compounds were tested for antibacterial an
d antifungal activities and some of them exhibited moderate activity a
gainst S.aureus, Candida albicans, Candida sp., Cryptococcus neoforman
s and isolates of plant pathogenic fungi. Compound 5a (2-metilen-imida
zol-1-yl-N-cinnamyl-aniline) is particularly active on all the tested
microorganisms.
