Measurement systems consisting of multiple measurements of an object a
re considered and their linear dependency is gradually quantified. Dis
turbances are taken into account by a simple model. The measurement op
erator is described by its singular value decomposition allowing a dee
per insight into its transfer characteristics. The meaning of the sing
ular values is discussed and they are used to define a measure for the
amount of information. The concept presented can be used as a simple
tool for experimental design the usefulness of which is demonstrated b
y applying it to a tomographic problem.
