COMPUTER-BASED TRAINING FOR FAILURE ANALYSIS

The amount of information necessary to perform failure analysis (FA) i s beginning to overwhelm the analyst. Methods for managing and locatin g FA information must be developed if we are to continue to be effecti ve in solving problems that occur during design, fab, packaging, and f ield use. To this end, Sandia National Laboratories has developed a co mputer-based training tool for FA known as FASTAdvice. FASTAdvice is a hypertext-based, multimedia tool that simulates the thinking process of a number of failure analysis experts and contains a substantial por tion of the knowledge necessary to successfully perform FA.
