A NOTE ON ARCHITECTURES FOR LARGE-CAPACITY CAMS - REPLY

Recently, we presented a survey and analysis of large-capacity content addressable memories (CAMs). In his note, Parhami correctly points ou t that we omitted a reference to his seminal survey paper in this fiel d; we regret this omission. Other contentions in his note are addresse d in this reply. The motivation and structure of the original paper ar e reviewed to set the context. The parametric and graphical aspects of the paper, which we call the ''taxonomy'', are indeed original, and r eiterated as accurate. Our emphasis in the paper was, justifiably, on integrated circuit implementations and real physical issues relating t o such implementations.
