Abstract
The fact that the water absorbed after high-temperature heat treatment is retained by YBa2Cu3O6+delta during subsequent oxygenation can be i nterpreted on the basis of purely geometric considerations: the intera tomic distances in orthorhombic YBa2Cu3O6+delta such that the water sp ecies are locked in their structural positions.
