Various approaches concerning commitment in organizations are reviewed
. Amongst them are structural, continuance, behavioral and organizatio
nal commitment. Organizational commitment with its components ''identi
fication'' ''effort'' and ''willingness to stay with the organization'
' is the most influential concept in work and organizational psycholog
ical research. Especially, quality of alternatives and size of previou
s investments contribute to the development of commitment. In addition
, various other factors are reviewed. Finally, both involvement and jo
b satisfaction are discerned from organizational commitment and future
research issues are discussed.
