This code of ethics was prepared by the International School Psycholog
y Association's (ISPA's) Standards and Practices Committee and approve
d by ISPA's General Assembly in August 1990. The Committee was guided
by the belief that school psychologists are expected to exemplify the
profession's values and principles. These include transcending narrow
personal, social and cultural values and attitudes; adopting positions
that benefit professional-client relationships; and acting in ways th
at are consistent with the best interests of children and youths, educ
ators, parents, institutions, the community and the profession. This s
tatement addresses issues important to professional responsibilities,
confidentiality, professional growth, professional limitations, profes
sional relationships, assessment and research.
